Product release information for VIPRE Advanced Security for Home - Windows Edition, released on February 19, 2020. This release is version 11.0.5.203

What's New

  • Protection enhancements - This service release includes enhanced support for the newest versions of the Windows 10 operating system. Our cloud-based Advanced Active Protection engine, which uses artificial intelligence along with cloud-based threat intelligence, is improved even more with this release to keep you protected from the latest threats.
  • Social Watch - Due to changes imposed by Facebook, we have removed the Social Watch feature as it would not continue to provide the value provided in the past.
  • History cleaner - Our VIPRE Privacy Shield product protects your identity by finding personally identifiable information (PII)  in your browser's history, temp files, as well as documents stored on your computer. With the depth of search capabilities to make you aware of stored PII data that VIPRE Privacy Shield can provide to you, we have made the tough decision to remove the history cleaner capabilities from VIPRE Advanced Security. If you install VIPRE Privacy Shield, you can now selectively review and delete stored browser data, as well as put personal documents into an encrypted vault on your machine. VIPRE Privacy Shield is part of the VIPRE Ultimate bundle or can be purchased alone.
  • Bug fixes - In addition to these changes, we have fixed various bugs with this release.

Known Issues and Workarounds

This section lists issues that are known at the time of release. In some cases, these are bugs that we are working to resolve with a subsequent release. Other items may be due to causes outside of our control, such as bugs with other vendors' software. In all cases, we have tried to provide a workaround for you to consider, should you experience an issue.

If you have questions about a specific issue, please provide the issue ID (if applicable) when contacting our Technical Support team.

Issue: VIPRE fails to open, often with a message reading "VIPREUI.exe - This application could not be started"  [VIPREHOME-7484]

This message happens because VIPRE requires .NET 4.6 to run. On some computers, Windows must be updated before .NET 4.6 can be installed.

Action Required

To install .NET 4.6 on Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2, you must first run Windows Update and patch your PC.

See the Microsoft KB articles below for more details, or our VIPRE Support article.
