What do the different statuses of the VIPRE Agent mean?

VIPRE Agents have the following status types:

Status Description
Agent Download Failed

Micro Installer was unable to download the agent software and that the agent installation failed

How to fix:

  1. Go to Site Properties>Updates and confirm the software is downloaded
  2. Verify that you have what is required to update the VIPRE console
  3. Verify the Update Server under "Communication" in the policy's properties
Agent Installation Failed

An agent was not installed successfully

How to fix:

  1. Check the C:\ProgramData\VIPRE Business Agent\Logs\AgentMSI.csv log in the Agent's Volatile Data folder for an error 
  2. Click HERE to search for the Error Number on the VIPRE Helpdesk
  3. If reinstalling, click HERE to ensure remnants of previous installations are removed
Agent Shutdown The machine on which the agent resides has been shut down
Begin Custom Scan A Custom Scan is in progress; this can be a right-click scan, a USB drive scan or a custom scan that was configured on the agent
Begin Scanning A Quick Scan has begun
Begin Scanning Full A Full Scan has begun
Cleaning An agent is cleaning threats
Defs Update Complete An agent's definitions were successfully updated
Downgrade Ignored A user tried to install a downgraded version of VIPRE (for example, a VPE agent over a VEP agent) and the downgrade is being ignored
Downloading Admin Action The Admin Action script (tool to remove 3rd party agents) is being downloaded onto the machine where the agent is going to be installed
Downloading MSI The MSI Installer package is being downloaded onto the machine where the agent is going to be installed
Installing Agent An agent is being installed
Installing Micro Installer

The Micro Installer is being installed

How to fix:

  1. If the system is a notebook/laptop, ensure it is on AC Power
  2. Click HERE to confirm and resolve agent communication issues
  3. Ensure the "IPRE Microinstaller is not already installed on the system
  4. If reinstalling, Click HERE to ensure remnants of previous installations are removed
Installing Patches Missing patches are being installed
Installation Complete Patch installation is complete
Needs Credentials

None of the credentials specified in Site Properties > Agent Installation are valid for the computer

How to fix:

  1. Open the Endpoint Server console and select Site Properties
  2. Navigate to Agent Installation and select Add
  3. When prompted, enter credentials with administrative rights on the endpoint in question
    Note: For Workgroups, enter the System Name for "Domain"
  4. Enter the System's Name in "Test Computer"
  5. Select OK, then Apply, and then OK
  6. Right-Click the Agent in the Unprotected Tab and select Rescan Selected Computer(s)
  7. Select the status once it changes to Install Agent to install the agent software on the endpoint
Not Communicating

An agent is no longer communicating and the last contact time was an indeterminate amount of time

How to fix:

  1. Confirm the system is powered on and connected to the network
  2. Confirm Network Discovery and File & Printer Sharing are enabled (Windows Vista+)
Not Found NetBIOS or Active Directory queries cannot find the computer on the network
Protect Now The agent is not installed on the computer
Patch Scanning A scan for missing patches is in progress
Protected An agent has successfully installed
Reboot Required The machine on which the agent is installed requires a reboot (usually after the agent was installed)
Running Admin Action An admin action script is being run to remove 3rd party agent
Scan Aborted The scan was aborted by the user
Scan Complete The scan has completed
Scan Failed The scan failed for an unspecified reason
Scan Paused A scan was paused by the user
Scanning Cookies An agent is scanning cookies
Scanning Files An agent is scanning files
Scanning Folders An agent is scanning folders
Scanning Memory An agent is scanning the PC’s memory, including its processes
Scanning Registry An agent is scanning the Windows registry
Updating Defs An agent is updating its definitions
Updates Failed Updates for the agent failed
Uploading MSI Log The log of the installation is inserted into the database where VSS is located
Updating Software An agent's software is being updated
User Remediation A user has selected to do something with a found threat (quarantine or remove)
