There are multiple ways that you can adjust how encryption within SafeSend is triggered. 

Settings that Trigger Encryption

There are four settings that control how SafeSend should trigger encryption.

TriggerEncryptionMode
Set to disabled by default. This setting can either be set to ‘Disabled’, ‘Ask when files are attached’, ‘Ask when found sensitive content in DLP Content Scanning’, or ‘Always ask’. If ‘TriggerEncryptionMode’ is set to disabled, SafeSend will not trigger any encryption independent of the values of the other encryption settings.

Controls how the ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ radio button behaves. It can be set to ‘Require user input’ whereby the user is required to click ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to send the email. It can also be set to ‘Encrypt’ or ‘Do not encrypt’ which results in that either the ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ radio button will be checked by default.

TriggerEncryptionSubjectString
The string that SafeSend adds to the subject line if the end-user answers ‘Yes’ to the encryption question. It is typically set to ‘[encrypt]’ or ‘[secure]’. If the user clicks a ‘Send Encrypted’ button in the Outlook Add-in from the encryption provider, then SafeSend will see that the subject line contains the encryption string and it will decide to not ask about encryption since the user has already indicated that the email should be encrypted.

TriggerEncryptionXHeader
Can be set to tag the email with an invisible x-header to trigger encryption.

Data Loss Prevention

SafeSend can be configured to ask the user about encrypting the email when sensitive content is found in the email. It is possible to define rules in the DLP Content Scanning that detects sensitive content such as social security numbers or credit card numbers.

If you set ‘TriggerEncryptionMode’ to ‘Ask when found sensitive content in DLP Content Scanning’, SafeSend will only ask the end-user about encryption when sensitive content is found. It is then possible to configure the ‘Yes’ radio box to be checked by default to indicate to the user that this is the type of content that should be encrypted.
