Keeping your macOS devices protected with the latest security measures is crucial, and updating your VIPRE Cloud Agent ensures you benefit from enhanced features, performance improvements, and the newest threat intelligence.

This guide provides a detailed walkthrough for upgrading your VIPRE Cloud Agent for macOS. The update process involves two key phases: initiating the agent software upgrade from the VIPRE Cloud web console and then completing essential post-upgrade system configurations directly on your macOS device to ensure full functionality and protection. By following these steps, you can seamlessly transition to the updated agent, maintaining robust endpoint security for your Apple ecosystem.

Part 1: Initiate and Complete the Agent Software Upgrade

This section guides you through upgrading the VIPRE Cloud Agent for macOS directly from your VIPRE Cloud web console, and assume you are already logged in to your subscribed VIPRE Cloud product's web console with administrator credentials:

  1. Navigate to the SETUP > Deploy Agents section in the left-hand navigation of your web console
  2. Locate the MAC header and confirm that the new version number is displayed
  3. Click Update Devices to start the upgrade process
  4. On the installer's initial screen, click Continue to proceed
  5. Carefully read the End-User License Agreement for the new agent version
  6. Click Continue, then click Agree if you accept the terms
  7. The installer should automatically detect your existing agent
  8. Verify that the installation type indicates an upgrade or replacement of the current software
  9. Typically, you can then click Install
  10. You'll likely be prompted to enter your macOS administrator User Name and Password to authorize the upgrade
  11. Enter your credentials and click Install Software
  12. The installer will now replace the old agent files with the new version's files
  13. Once the upgrade process successfully finishes, click Close

After the upgrade, it's crucial to confirm that the agent has been updated to the latest version. You can usually do this by checking the VIPRE Cloud console or within the agent's interface on your macOS machine. Look for any indication of the agent's version number.

Part 2: Post-Upgrade System Configuration (macOS Prompts)

Depending on the version of macOS on your computer, these steps may occur directly on your device after the software upgrade and require your interaction to grant necessary permissions for the VIPRE Cloud Agent to function correctly.

  1. On the "Startup problem" screen, click OK
  2. If you see the "System Extension Blocked" message, click Open Security Preferences
  3. On the "Security & Privacy" screen, click the padlock icon at the bottom left
  4. Enter your administrator credentials when prompted
  5. Next to the message "System software from application "Securitynetworkinstallerapp" was blocked from loading," click Allow
  6. Keep this "Security & Privacy" screen open for the next step
  7. Click the agent icon (typically found in your dock or menu bar)
  8. When you see the prompt "BDLDaemon would like to filter network content," click Allow
  9. Go back to the "Security & Privacy" screen (the one you left open) and click the Privacy tab
  10. In the left sidebar, find and click Full Disk Access
  11. Ensure that BDLDaemon is checked. If it's not, check the box next to it
  12. Click the padlock icon again to relock the "Security & Privacy" screen
  13. At the top of your screen, when the agent asks for permission to show notifications, click Options and then select Allow

Congratulations! Your VIPRE Cloud Agent for macOS has now been updated.
