Updated at February 24th, 2021

Recently, on November 12, 2020, Apple released macOS 11 Big Sur that includes security restrictions that VIPRE isn't compatible with just yet. We have been working closely with Apple to address this, though, and are working as fast as possible to make the necessary changes to continue keeping you safe online.

I have not upgraded to macOS 11 yet. Should I?

If you subscribe to a VIPRE solution and have not yet upgraded your computer system to macOS 11 Big Sur, we recommend waiting to upgrade macOS until we release a compatible version of VIPRE. Generally, it is always smart to keep your operating systems and applications as up to date as possible. This practice helps keep you safe from all of the latest security concerns, which is why we are working hard to get an updated version of VIPRE to you as quickly as we can. By not upgrading to macOS 11 right away, VIPRE can continue working to keep you safe online while you use your computer until we release an update that is compatible with macOS 11.

Make sure you have VIPRE Software/Agent Updates set to Notify to ensure you are made aware when the new version of VIPRE is made available.

  • If using VIPRE Advanced Security for Home, refer to Related Articles for details on how to adjust application updates
  • For VIPRE Endpoint Security Cloud macOS Agent, refer to Related Articles for details on how to manage agent software updates

I've already upgraded to macOS 11. What now?

If you have already updated your operating system to macOS 11 Big Sur, you may see the following notification:

Agent service connection failed

To stop seeing this message pop up, select Quit VIPRE.

Please see the Release Status above for specific details on how to access and install the latest version of VIPRE for both home and business.

How will I know when the new version of VIPRE is available?

We are working hard to get a new version of VIPRE that supports macOS 11 Big Sur out to you as soon as possible. You can check this page for weekly status updates, which will appear towards the top of the page under Release Status.

I still have questions. What should I do?
