Release notes for the VIPRE Cloud Agent hotfix early access release made available May 6, 2020.

What's New

The VIPRE Endpoint Cloud v12 Agent release introduced an entirely new network protection stack to the agent with much more powerful protection capabilities including DNS Protection, an IDS (Intrusion Detection System) with greater than 10x more detection rules, and new browser plugins. As with any major new technology however there is always a risk of issues being discovered, and despite our extensive internal and Beta testing, we did run into some issues with this new agent.

This new agent hotfix (v12.0.7874) addresses the issues that have surfaced thus far, including some observed issues with network latency in very specific customer environments, better handling of URL whitelisting, and a couple of rare crashes under certain device and network loads.

Special Instructions

This agent hotfix will be the first to leverage our new "Custom Build" functionality to allow our customers to try out an agent preview prior to a production release. Under the 'Deploy Agents' tab, the new agent will appear as a Custom Build (contact Support for the Custom Build code if you don't see it), which you can then package into an MSI installer or update to selected devices for testing purposes.

Bugs fixed in this release

The following bugs have been resolved with this release:

  • [VPBAGENT-6235] Network issues on some server OS's
  • [VPBAGENT-6237] Issues with network protection resiliency: Under certain conditions, such as networks with large amounts of non-TCP/UDP traffic, specific queues within the VIPRE network filter driver could overflow and cause excessive network latency - sometimes causing other network connections to fail.
  • [VPBAGENT-6243] Unable to connect to Exchange server: Outlook and Exchange configured with RPC over HTTP or MAPI over HTTP may experience failed connections when Content Filtering is turned on
  • [VPBAGENT-6249] URL whitelist not honored: Under certain conditions, URL whitelist entries were not being honored by the URL and Content Filtering features
  • [VPBAGENT-6251] Page fault when streaming multiple videos: Heavy video streaming loads were causing crashes in the network filter driver
  • [VPBAGENT-6265] Crash when VIPRE filter driver is combined with certain Broadcom WiFi drivers
  • [VPBAGENT-6335] Play Store Help and Support URLs incorrect for browser extensions
  • [VPBAGENT-6350] Agent locking access to ag-grid.com
  • [VPBAGENT-6351]  Internet connection may freeze when OpenVPN is run in full tunnel
