There may be occasions when the VIPRE Android Agent cannot be downloaded from the Google Play app store for any number of different reasons. Here we'll walk you through how to sideload the agent onto your Android device.

What is sideloading?

Sideloading is the act of installing an application package (APK) that you've downloaded from somewhere other than the official Google Play app store. You should only download APKs from trusted sources.

Step 1: Generate Access Code

First, an installation code is needed to connect the Android agent to the VIPRE console.

1. Open VIPRE Endpoint Security Server admin console
2. Click Android Policies
3. Select Install Agent
4. A wizard will pop up; follow the wizard until you get to the Installation Instructions
5. Take note of the access code provided

Step 2: Enable Sideloading on your Android Device

Next, we need to allow the installation of non-Google Play applications on the device. These instructions were created using Android version 11. Older versions of Android may differ.

1. Navigate to the device's Settings
2. Scroll down and select Apps
3. Tap the 3 vertical dots in the top-right and select Special Access
4. Scroll down and tap Install unknown apps
5. Select the app you'll be using to download the APK

6. Tap the button to Allow from this source

Step 3: Install the VIPRE Business Android Agent APK

1. Click here to download the APK on the desired Android Device
2. Tap the downloaded file and allow the installation to complete
3. Open the VIPRE Business Mobile application
4. Enter the owner's First Name, Last Name, and the above-mentioned Access Code from Step 1
5. After about 5-10 minutes, check for the Agent in the VIPRE Business Console

Congratulations - the VIPRE Business Android Agent is now installed.
