Managing Application Exceptions

VIPRE comes with default application exceptions. You can add new application exceptions, edit exceptions, and delete user-added exceptions. These application exceptions (rules) tell the Firewall what action to take for network activity to/from the application. This is typically useful for applications that use an automatic update feature.

To add, edit, or delete an application exception:

  1. Navigate to the Apps tab under Manage Rules (Manage>Firewall>Firewall Protection).
  2. To add a new application exception, click Add App Rule.
To edit an existing application exception, adjust the drop-down for an application.
To delete an existing application exception, select the row of a user-added rule in the table and click Delete.

Note: You can only delete user-added exceptions.

  3. Select an action (Allow, Allow with Notify, Block, Block with Notify, or Prompt) for the following conditions:
    • Trusted Inbound: Applies only to an inbound connection for your trusted network.
      • "Trusted" is anything inside your router.
    • Trusted Outbound: Applies only to an outbound connection for your trusted network(s).
    • Public Inbound: Applies only to an inbound connection for any network that is not trusted
      • "Public" is anything outside of your computer/network..
    • Public Outbound: Applies only to an outbound connection for any network that is not trusted.

Note: You can add to "a" and "b" by adding a Trusted network, and add to "c" and "d" by adding a Public network.

  4. Close to accept the changes.
