Advanced Active Protection

Advanced Active Protection is a real-time method for detecting malware. Sitting quietly in the background as you work or browse the Internet, Advanced Active Protection constantly monitors files that are executed (run) without causing noticeable strain to your computer system.

Important

When using Advanced Active Protection, ensure that there is no other real-time protection software running. If there is another real-time software running, the two programs running together may cause a noticeable decrease in system performance.

When Advanced Active Protection detects a threat, a notification displays alerting you that a malware threat was blocked.

To set and configure AAP (Advanced Active Protection):

  1. Click MyVIPRE, then Antivirus
  2. Switch on Advanced Active Protection
    • If you switch it off, malicious files will not be stopped in real-time
    • Scan files when they are opened or copied will offer the most hands-on security by looking at any file when it is accessed (by you or malicious software)
  3. Check Block potentially malicious processes to have VIPRE actively scan system processes for malicious intent; if you select this option, you must choose whether VIPRE favors performance or security:
    • If you select Performance, performance is preferred over security. Your system is protected, but the focus is on using less system resources.
    • If you select Most Secure, security is preferred over performance. Your system is more secure, at the cost of using more system resources.
  4. Check Look inside archives for Advanced Active Protection to dig into compressed files on the fly
    • Enabling this option may cause a small slowdown
  5. Check Do not show notification pop-up when a threat is blocked if you want VIPRE to handle malware threats quietly
    • Uncheck it if you want notifications
  6. Switch on Handle Threats Automatically to have both scans and Advanced Active Protection automatically take care of any malware found.
    • Switch it off if you want more control over how VIPRE handles malicious files
  7. Switch on Include low-risk programs to include all scan types and Advanced Active Protection
