VIPRE includes Gaming Mode, which prevents VIPRE from running any resource-intensive background activity, such as file scans, patch scans, or update operations, so video games. or any other resource-heavy application, you may be using can use as many resources as necessary to provide an optimal experience.
Configure Gaming Mode
Gaming Mode must be disabled in order to modify configuration options.
- From within VIPRE, select Manage from the top menu
- Select Gaming from the left-side menu
- You will see five options you can select with a checkbox to configure Gaming Mode
- Postpone Scheduled Scans
- Postpone Definition Updates
- (VIPRE Advanced Security only) Postpone System Updates

Disable Status Notification disables the following notifications:
- Reboot prompt depending on detection by Active Protection
- Prompt to view scan results If VIPRE UI is not open and threats are detected
- Recommendation to perform a full scan
- Reboot reminder after a certain amount of time if a threat is detected
- Definition updates have started
- Definition updates have completed
- Expired License notification
- Start of scheduled scans
- Patch updates found new patches
- Full scan starts after traces of malware detected
- Program that is incompatible with Active Protection has been found

(VIPRE Advanced Security only) Disable Network Notifications disables the following notifications:
- Prompt during ethernet adapter event, asking the user if it is a trusted network
- Prompt during dialup adapter event, asking the user if it is a trusted network
- Notification that an intrusion has been blocked
- Notification that a connection attempt has been allowed
- Notification of network activities
- Prompt user for an option to make a rule regarding a network activity
- Notification during HIPS (Process Protection) events
- To use VIPRE recommended settings, click Restore Defaults at the bottom
Enable/Disable Gaming Mode
By default, Gaming Mode is turned off and will return to an off-state every time you restart your computer.
There are two ways to enable or disable Gaming Mode. Click on the desired method below.
Enable/Disable within VIPRE
- From within VIPRE, select Manage from the top menu
- Select Gaming from the left-side menu
- To enable Gaming Mode, click the Off button so the switch turns green and says On
- A window will pop up asking you how long you want to turn Gaming Mode on for; click the drop-down menu choosing from 1 hour up to 8 hours, then select Turn it on
- To disable Gaming Mode, click the On button so the switch turns grey and says Off
- To enable Gaming Mode, click the Off button so the switch turns green and says On
Gaming Mode will be enabled for the chosen amount of time or until you reboot your computer.
Enable/Disable from the System Tray
- Right-click the VIPRE icon in the system tray
- If currently disabled, choose Enable Gaming then select the amount of time you'd like Gaming Mode enabled for
- If currently enabled, choose Disable Gaming
Gaming Mode will be enabled for the chosen amount of time or until you reboot your computer.
