You can reset the VIPRE Firewall to either Standard Mode (default) or Learning Mode. When resetting or switching modes, you can also choose to keep or delete user-defined firewall rules (See below for more details).

To reset the Firewall to the default settings:

  1. Click Manage, then click the Firewall tab.
  2. Under Firewall Default Behaviors, click Reset To Defaults.
  3. Optionally, select Reset rules, losing custom rules if you suspect that one of the user-defined rules you created is causing problems and don't know which one to fix. A "user-defined" rule can include rules created when answering a prompt or manually through the Firewall Settings . Any user-defined rule created by any of the following areas apply: Applications, Ports, Advanced, Zones, Web Filtering, and Code Injection.

Note: If there are settings that you know are good and want to keep, make note of them before resetting.

  4. Click Reset. Your Firewall settings are now applied.

You can also change Firewall modes here. See Standard vs. Learning Mode for more information on each mode.

To change Firewall modes and reset to the default settings:

  1. Click Manage, then click the Firewall tab.
  2. Under Firewall Default Behaviors, select one of the following:
    • Standard: Resets to the Firewall "Standard" default settings. This resets any changes you may have made to the Firewall tab.
    • Learning: Resets to the Firewall "Learning" default settings. Learning mode will prompt you whenever there is an attempt made for a network connection.
  3. Optionally, select Delete custom rules, too if you suspect that one of the user-defined rules you created is causing problems and don't know which one to fix.
