What's New
For specific details, click on the tab for PC or Web add-in below.
PC Add-in
Data Loss Prevention Enhancement
In SafeSend v5.0, the PC add-in comes with the ability to run both DLP content scanning rules and DLP client keyword/domain list rules simultaneously. Refer to Related Articles for details on how to use Data Loss Prevention (DLP).
Automatic Scan of Encrypted Files
SafeSend now automatically scans files encrypted with Microsoft RMS (Microsoft's Rights Management System). The best part? No setup or configuration is required! Just attach the desired encrypted file to your email and send it as normal.
Group List Expansion
Grouped recipient list expansion has also now been added to the SafeSend PC Add-in. No configuration is necessary to expand groups or distribution lists other than initially setting up the groups.
To group email addresses by domain:
- From within Outlook, click File > Options > Add-ins > Add-in Options
- Select Edit settings then, under the Logic tab, click Advanced
- Locate GroupByDomain and click on False in the next column to change it to True
- Click Close Window
External Email Callout for DL within a DL
SafeSend PC add-in also now highlights email addresses external to your domain, hidden in distribution lists (DL) or SafeSend created domain groups, that you might not see otherwise. There is no configuration needed other than the initial setup of resolving DL membersTo turn on Resolve Distribution List Members:
- From within Outlook, click File > Options > Add-ins > Add-in Options
- Select Edit settings then, under the Logic tab, click Advanced
- Locate ResolveDLMembers and click on False in the next column to change it to True
- Click Close Window
Forbidden Recipients & Lists
Finally, SafeSend PC add-in now allows administrators to limit which specific email addresses or distribution lists their users are permitted to send emails to. Refer to Related Articles for specific details on how to use this feature.
Web Add-in
Refer to Related Articles for details on how to install the SafeSend Web add-in, including how to work with the settings.json and safesend-manifest.xml files.Updated Web Add-in Settings
The settings.json file has now been updated to include all applicable settings. There are five sections of settings you'll see that you can identify by the asterisks: Required, Commonly Used, Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Advanced, and Special Cases. Under each section's header, you will see each associated setting as well as a description, options for that setting, and syntax.
All lines that start with // are commented-out, meaning they are effectively ignored and exist for your information only. In order to enable any setting that is commented out, you simply need to uncomment the line that setting is on by removing the // from the beginning of that particular line. It's important to note that commented-out settings are in their default state, as described in the settings.json file.
Data Loss Prevention
SafeSend Web add-in version 5.0 introduces the addition of the Data Loss Protection (DLP) add-on, bringing more consistency across both add-ins. DLP can scan emails and attachments for specific client keywords or regular expressions and requires user confirmation before the email is sent. There are two important features associated with DLP:
- Client Keyword/Domain Scanning allows you to identify a set of client keywords or regular expressions and associate those with a set of client domains or individual email addresses
- DLP Content Scanning presents sensitive content to the user, allowing the user to determine if the email should be blocked or sent with additional confirmation
Refer to Related Articles for specific details on how to configure and use DLP.
Forbidden Recipients & Lists
Finally, SafeSend Web add-in now allows administrators to limit which specific email addresses or distribution lists their users are permitted to send emails to.
Refer to Related Articles for specific details on how to use this feature.System Requirements
