Product release information for SafeSend Self-Hosted version 6.0.5 (Web Add-in and PC Add-in).
What's New
This release of SafeSend focuses on hardening the data loss prevention (DLP) engine, tightening reporting accuracy, and introducing a completely new task pane-style client experience.
VIPRE Recommends
Keeping all software in your environment as up-to-date as possible is critical. New software releases often fix issues with older product versions that, unless addressed, could leave you vulnerable. As such, VIPRE recommends updating to the most recent version as soon as possible.
You can check the current status of older product versions on the VIPRE Product Lifecycle Matrix to learn when support for specific product versions may end.

Web Add-in
A Brand-New Task Pane Client Experience
The headline of this release for Self-Hosted customers is a fully redesigned client: the SafeSend UI has been replaced with a modern task pane-style experience that brings the Self-Hosted add-in in line with the look and feel of SafeSend Cloud. The confirmation flow is cleaner, clearer, and better suited to today's hybrid Outlook environments.

- Existing clients will continue to work after upgrade
- Only settings and strings for the new task pane UI will be configurable in the Admin Portal
- A new manifest XML will need to be deployed to upgrade legacy clients
Performance and Security Hardening
Behind the scenes, 6.0.5 reduces database load and increases responsiveness through improved caching and query optimization. We've also added support for authenticating with certificates instead of an app secret, giving administrators a more secure and manageable credential option.
Fixed & Improved in this Release
- Improved caching and database queries to reduce DB load and increase responsiveness
- Added support for using certificates instead of an app secret
- Added limits to DLP scanning for file size (10MB), nested depth (10 nested files), and timeout (30 seconds)
Important
DLP scan limits on upgrade: If your current policy settings are above the new default limits of 10 MB file size, 10 nested files, and 30 seconds timeout, they will be clamped to the new limits upon upgrade. To retain higher limits, add the following environment variables prior to upgrading:
- DlpScan__MaxFileSizeLimit
- DlpScan__MaxNestedFilesLimit
- DlpScan__TimeoutLimit
PC Add-in
Stability and Prompt-Accuracy Fixes
This release for the PC Add-in resolves two issues that affected prompt behavior and message handling, ensuring users are prompted only when they should be and that sending from certain message files works reliably.
Fixed in this Release
- Fixed an issue where OnlyPopUpForNewEmailThreads did not suppress prompts on older threads
- Fixed an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error when sending from certain .msg files
Planning for Microsoft's "New Outlook"
Microsoft has updated its Outlook platform, and is expected to end support for "classic Outlook," including legacy COM add-ins, like SafeSend Self-Hosted PC Add-in. While the current PC add-in remains fully supported by VIPRE until then, we recommend that organizations begin planning their upgrade strategy toward the SafeSend Self-Hosted Web Add-in or SafeSend Cloud to ensure a seamless transition.
Special Instructions
Ready to get started? Here are a few key steps to make the most of this release:
- Deploy the new manifest XML to upgrade legacy clients to the new task pane UI
- If you rely on DLP scan limits above the new defaults, set the DlpScan environment variables before upgrading (see the Important note above)
After upgrading, confirm your reporting looks as expected, as reply capture and attachment-removal reporting have both changed in this release.
