Configure VIPRE Outbound Authentication Token

The Outbound Token is a unique token added to the email header that is generated automatically and adds an additional layer of security by:

  • Uniquely identifying and authenticating legitimate outbound traffic from your cloud-based email solution
  • Acting as a preventative measure, ensuring only authenticated and authorized traffic is processed
  • Mitigating the risk of being blocked/added to a denylist by major email providers by providing a reliable method for distinguishing legitimate traffic from potential malicious activities

This article is written for Microsoft 365 but can generally be applied to any cloud-based email solution, such as Google Workspace.

  1. Ensure that the outbound mail flow has been configured in your chosen cloud-based email solution
  2. Navigate to the Email Security Cloud web console
  3. From the left-side menu, click Service Settings
  4. Select Outbound Relay
  5. Find the Outbound Email Token and copy the value;  this token is unique to your account
  6. Navigate to the Exchange Admin Center
  7. From the left-side menu, expand Mail Flow
  8. Select Rules
  9. Click Add a rule 
  10. Select Create a new rule using the following settings:
    1. Name: Provide an appropriate name for the rule, e.g. VIPRE Token
    2. Apply this rule if: From the first drop-down, select The Sender; from the second drop-down, select is external/internal, then select Inside the organization
    3. Do the following: Select Modify the message properties, then select Set a message header
    4. You will then see Set the message header  Enter text  to the value  Enter text
      1. Click the first Enter text (after header) and type X-Vipre-Tenant-Key
      2. Click the second Enter text (after value) and enter the value you saved from Step 5 above
  11. Click Next
  12. On the Set rule settings page, ensure Rule mode is set to Enforce
  13. Click Next to review the settings
  14. Select Finish; you will see a green notification stating the transport rule was created successfully

Important

Once the Transport Rule is saved, it will be disabled. You must then open the rule from the list and enable the rule.
